Hannes Köcher

lives and works in Vienna/Austria and in Esch sur Alzette/Luxembourg.
He is a media artist, programmer and painter, deeply rooted in a past of electroacoustic composition.
He develops interactive installations for exhibitions and museums, builds performance automatons and creates paintings in collaboration with his robots.

After a long engagement with computer graphics, the desire for materialisation arose, followed by the development of the first drawing robot in 2012 that brings these graphics onto paper and canvas. The drawings and paintings are mostly based on physical simulations of threads that are exposed to complex force fields in virtual worlds.

His musical activities have developed mainly around his alter ego hons, under the name of which he has released three albums and performed on numerous occasions.

As an artist he has exhibited at the Vienna Museum, the Sehsaal in Vienna, in the Schallform Gallery in Vienna and at CUEVA in Luxembourg. His works were shown at the Luxembourg Art Week and the Vienna Art Week with the Dessous Gallery. His works were selected for the Yicca International Art Contest in Rome and Art2Cure Luxembourg.
Group exhibitions and performances at WUK and Tanzquartier Vienna, in the Presidential Gallery Hofburg Vienna, at the FutureLab Conference and at the Reflektor Vienna.

In 2009 he attended a TURBO residency at ImpulsTanz Festival Vienna.

For the Viennese architecture firm COOP Himmelb(l)au he worked on beyond the blue at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, braincloud revisited at Biennale of Architecture in Venice and Future Revisited at the ICC in Tokyo.

He is the co-founder of the company “Köcher & Grill OEG”, designing software for realtime media applications and computer arts until 2006.
Since 2007 he is a senior project partner with cat-x exhibitions.

Having studied electroacoustic and experimental music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, he started his career in the arts‘ world as a production assistant, unit manager and assistant director for various TV and feature films.
